k16Solutions: Sakai to Canvas Migration
Providence College is working with a company called k16Solutions to migrate some Sakai courses to Canvas automatically. We will consider any course taught in the last two academic years as candidates for this process, though we can’t migrate ALL courses across those two years.
Criteria for Opting in a k16Solutions migration
Here is some important criteria to consider before determining if this is the right fit for your course content:
- Courses must have been active within the past two years.
- If your course consists mainly of items in the Sakai Resources tool, it will be easier for you to export the Resources tool as a “zip” archive and then import that directly to your Canvas site; there is no need to wait for k16Solutions to migrate your content.
- Good candidates for migration are sites that use multiple Sakai tools – such as Assignments, Tests & Quizzes, or Lessons — effectively. Assignments will move to Assignments, Forums to Discussions, Lessons to Modules and Pages, Resources to Files, and Tests & Quizzes to Quizzes.
How to Opt into k16Solutions
If you have decided to have k16Solutions automate your course migration, please follow the instructions below to notify the Sakai Administrators that you would like your site(s) migrated.
- Log in to Sakai. Then visit any course that you’ve taught in the last two years and review the material, and decide if you feel it should be one of your two migration requests.
- If you wish to nominate the course for migration, go to Site Info for the site and then click on Manage Tools.
- Under Manage Tools, scroll down and click the checkbox next to the “PostEm” tool. BE SURE to scroll down and click “Continue” after making the change, and then click “Finish.”
- If your Sakai course site uses Tests & Quizzes, click here for critical information on how to prepare your site so these resources will properly migrate to Canvas.
